Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries

 

The AHT program at Red River College has the following awards for students in the first and second year of the program.

Awards after completion of first Term

 

  •  Barbara Nagler Memorial Bursary

Established by her family in memory of Barbara Nagler,

PARTICULARS: 2 - $500 bursaries available

NOMINEE QUALIFICATIONS: RRC AHT student who has completed the first term with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and who demonstrate financial need and a spirit of volunteerism.

Application forms are available from and should be submitted to one of the Student Service Centres. A one-page letter indicating volunteer and other relevant information must accompany the application. Deadline for applications is January 31 for the first-year bursaries.

  • The Sophie Katarynych Award

Award offered Through The Winnipeg Foundation

PARTICULARS: 1 - $600 award available

NOMINEE QUALIFICATIONS: Available to first year RRC AHT student. Selection will be based on high academic standing with financial need also taken into consideration.

Application forms are available from and should be submitted to one of the Student Service Centres. Deadline for applications is January 31.

Awards after completion of First Year

 

  • Manitoba Animal Health Technologist Association Academic Award

PARTICULARS: 1 - $200.00 award available

NOMINEE QUALIFICATIONS: Available to an AHT student with the highest academic standing after year one.

PARTICULARS: 1-$1000 bursary and 1- $750 bursary available

NOMINEE QUALIFICATIONS: Bursary available to AHT students who completed the first year with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and who demonstrate financial need and spirit of volunteerism.

  • Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association Scholarship

PARTICULARS: $300.00 - Awarded after completion of first year.

  •  Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association Bursary *

$300.00 - awarded after completion of first year.

* students apply for these 3 awards in September of their second year

 

Graduate Awards

 

  • Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association Academic Award

PARTICULARS: $300.00 - awarded to a graduate student who demonstrates outstanding academic and technical proficiency.

  • Hill’s Pet Nutrition Canada - Small Animal Nutrition Award

PARTICULARS: $200.00 - awarded to a graduate student who demonstrates proficiency in small animal nutrition and who is working in a small animal practise.

  • Merial Canada Award

PARTICULARS: Book - awarded to a graduate student showing high academic proficiency and excellent clinical skills after completing the program.

Automatic selection- application not required

 

  • MAHTA Compassion Award

PARTICULARS: $200.00 - awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated compassion to animals and fellow students throughout the program.

Winner will be chosen by class vote.

  • McPhillips Animal Hospital Medical Nursing Award

PARTICULARS: Stethoscope - awarded to a graduating student demonstrating excellent medical nursing skills.

  • Canadian Animal Blood Bank Award

PARTICULARS: $300.00 - awarded to a graduating student who demonstrated exceptional interest and skills during the blood donor collection labs.

  • Animal Health Technology Staff Award

PARTICULARS: Plaque - awarded to an AHT student showing the most improvement academically and in skills after completing the program.

 

AWARDS IN THE FIELD:

 

  • MAHTA RAHT of The Year Award

PARTICULARS: Nominations accepted from co-workers, employers or peers working with RAHTs in the field who have demonstrated a strong work ethic in the work place or with their Association. More details on the nomination form.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the MAHTA.CA Quick Links Menu and are to be submitted to the MAHTA office prior to the August Deadline stated on Nomination Form

Recipient will be chosen by the Judging Committee as appointed by the MAHTA Executive Board

Recipient will receive recognition at the annual MAHTA Conference in October, receive a Plaque as well as a $200 monetary gift.

 

  • CAAHTT's AHT/VT of the Year Award

PARTICULARS: Supported by Hill's Pet Nutrition, this award rewards effort, builds loyalty, and encourages performance. Since 2002, the Board of Directors of CAAHTT has been awarding a deserving technologist, the Canadian AHT/VT of the Year Award.

Recipient will be recognized at their annual provincial association meeting and will also receive an all expense paid trip to the CAAHTT/CVMA conference the year AFTER nomination 

Submissions for this Award are to be forwarded from the Provincial AHT/VT Association's Executive Board. The CAAHTT Board will then review the nominations, make their choice, and Hill's Pet Nutrition Canada will give the final approval.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  1. be an active member of their provincial association
  2. participate as a past or present board or committee member of their Association
  3. be involved, active and current in the profession of AHT/VT
  4. have outstanding performance in their workplace
